Town of New London improves emergency communications

The Town of New London has contracted with Emergency Communications Network, Inc. for its “CodeRED” high-speed telephone emergency notification services. The CodeRED system gives Town emergency officials the ability to deliver pre-recorded emergency telephone notification/information messages to the entire town or to targeted areas at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour.

Although we have access to an existing commercial telephone database, please note that the system is only as good as the database supporting it; if your phone number is not in our records, you will not receive a phone call from the Town in an emergency. To ensure that you are not omitted, please log onto the Town of New London’s website, www.nl-nh.com, and follow the link on the right to the “CodeRED Emergency Notification Network” [or click here to go there directly].  If you do not have internet access, call the New London Town Offices at (603) 526-4821 ext. 10 and we will add your information. Minimum required information includes first and last name, physical street address in New London and primary phone number. Additional phone numbers, such as cell phones or seasonal residences, are strongly encouraged.

Duplicate phone numbers are automatically ignored by the system. Businesses should also register, as well as individuals who have unlisted phone numbers or who have changed their phone number or New London street address within the last year. The CodeRED system is a geographically-based notification system, which means street addresses are needed to select which phone numbers will receive emergency notification in any given situation.

Although calls will be generated by the Town of New London, the number that will show up on Caller ID when receiving an alert message is 1-866-419-5000. When called back, this phone number will replay the last message sent to that phone for 30 days.

This information will only be used for emergency notification purposes and will not be shared. If you have any questions please contact Jessie Levine, Town Administrator, at (603) 526-4821 ext. 13 or townadmin@nl-nh.com.

Thanks very much,

Jessie Levine, Town Administrator
