"LAME DUCKS" CAN STILL BITE

Before the October recess, the current members of Congress in Washington did not do their Constitutional job of passing a budget for the fiscal year. (The current fiscal year started Oct.1st ) Nor did they deal with the expiring Bush tax cuts. Now the lame duck congress, which was soundly defeated on Nov 2nd, is still not dealing with the problems most important to the voters. The temporary funding to run the federal government expired Dec 2nd ... Did they give us a belated federal budget? No. They did another 'extension' which expires Dec 18th. Have they dealt with the expiring tax cuts? Only in a manipulative manner. The President made a "deal" with the GOP leadership which really isn't a good deal when you look at it. The Democrats object because it doesn't soak the "rich" with increased taxes and the conservative Republicans don't like it because of other parts that increase the debt. In the ensuing furor, the Progressives in control of Congress are piling pork on the "deal" at an amazing rate before it can come up for a vote.

Congress is ignoring what the voters said was important and continue on their merry progressive way. The lame duck session's calendar is chock-a-block full of socialist, control the people, redistribute the wealth ideas being pushed instead of attending to business. (You know, the insignificant things like actually having a Federal budget, or, dealing with the looming tax increases, or, doing something that would actually help the economy and help to create jobs in America).

Soon this liberal congress will be replaced by a more conservative congress and the Progressives will not be able to push their agenda as well. Many of us have expected the Progressives will try to go through bureaucratic rulings to accomplish what they can't do through legislation. But it seems that they aren't even going to wait till they are out of power to start their end runs around the Constitution. Here are a few examples I'm aware of already in progress..

  • "Washington Passes Secret Energy Tax ALERT: It looks like the climate bill debate has already been decided by Washington and voters didn't even have a chance to say "NO!" A staggering $65 billion dollars...to fund the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).

RGGI is a government created entity that is choking companies in the northeast with huge tax increases in the name of the environment. Our tax dollars are funding this secret climate initiative. Soon RGGI will expand to every state and stick you with astronomical energy prices."

  • "Christmas Gift for the Internet: Net Neutrality Regulation By James Gattuso" Should bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., set rules for the Internet? Julius Genachowski, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), thinks so. In remarks today, he stated that he had developed a new plan to impose so-called "net neutrality" rules on Internet service providers, setting a vote on the issue for December 21. (That is an FCC vote, not a Congressional vote.) Details of the plan are yet to be released, but the chairman indicated that the plan was based on a legislative proposal floated a month ago by Representative Henry Waxman (D–CA). That plan... was soundly rejected by Congress. Genachowski’s plan—which the FCC would adopt without specific approval by Congress—should be rejected as well."

  • "Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood envisions centralized government mechanisms to shut off commuters' BlackBerries and iPhones. While making the cable TV rounds, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood revealed a public service campaign against 'epidemic' cell phone use and texting on the road. He discussed government mandating cell phone scramblers in automobiles. "I think the technology is there and I think you're going to see the technology become adaptable in automobiles to disable these cell phones. We need to do a lot more if we're going to save lives." he stated. "There's a lot of technology out there now that can disable phones, and we're looking at that."

  • There is talk of expanding the invasion and unconstitutional body scans and enhanced pat-downs to travelers on trains and boats too. This would be a DHS decision.

Unfortunately the bureaucracy in Washington is FULL of Progressives. So, even after this lame duck congress is gone, we aren't safe from the anti-American, anti-capitalism Progressive movement that is working so hard to "fundamentally change America".

"Anyone who thinks dysfunctional government is going to help achieve their dreams is putting their faith in the wrong place. People who believe a politician of whatever party or persuasion can make their life better than individual initiative are doing more than dreaming; such persons are displaying cult-like faith, which can never be fulfilled. The rules for achieving the American dream may no longer be taught in and supported by culture, but that doesn't mean they don't work. The rules are known to previous generations: studying and staying in school; achieving at least an undergraduate degree; avoiding drugs that harm your mind and body; getting married before you have children and working hard to stay married as an example to those children and to benefit society; saving and investing for retirement so as not to burden taxpayers and relatives; living within one's means; demonstrating personal honesty and professional integrity, which comes from character developed in one's youth, usually with a sense of right and wrong once imposed by parents and affirmed by culture."
