Part 3

So, we have gotten to the 1900s with a government that still followed the Constitution and protected the people's rights and freedoms, and a people that still recognized their responsibilities in maintaining both a constitutionally functioning government and their God given rights. To be sure there had been some government violations of the Constitution but by voting out the guilty politicians, these were usually corrected promptly. It wasn't perfect, but it was the best form of government ever devised by mankind and America prospered and became wealthy under it.

Worldwide the political theory of Communism was gaining wide approval. The idea that a strong centralized government could provide the security people like to have (homes, food, healthcare, income, etc.) was very appealing. In some countries, actual revolutions brought Communism into power. In many other countries, it was a more gradual shift to socialism. The common mindset, even in America changed, shifting towards believing that the Federal government should be providing for us instead of us providing for ourselves and our families. The true “radicals” and “revolutionaries” led the effort to change the culture and government here in America.

Let me state right now that I believe that most people who have a liberal/socialist/communist/progressive mindset actually mean to be helpful and have good intentions. Unfortunately, it never works out that way. Look at the abject failure of Communism in Russia and China and other communist states during the last century. Look at the failure of the democratic socialism in Europe we see today. Look at the millions upon millions slaughtered by the communist and socialist governments in the past century! As Winston Churchill said, “Socialism is a philosophy of
failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” As noted by Italian philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli, “One who deceives will always find those who allow themselves to be deceived.” The radicals indeed found those willing to be deceived and to be used unwittingly for the deceivers' purposes.

The multi-pronged attack on America's culture and government that ensued has been very successful. In the past century we have seen many negative changes prompted by the socialist agenda. Thomas Jefferson said it would take a moral and educated citizenry to maintain the republic. A basic source of moral behavior is religious belief and practice. There has been an incontestable effort by liberals against public displays of a religious nature and prayer. There has been an amazing moral decline over the decades with an accompanying loss of respect for authority and the symbols of authority. I believe the liberals in the entertainment business are responsible for a great deal of this moral decline.

I have seen the expectations of education lowered repeatedly and the control taken away from the parents and the community while the Federal government became increasingly involved. Many students graduating high school, even back in the 60s when I graduated, have never even read the entire Declaration of Independence no less the actual Constitution. How can the people hold the politicians responsible for upholding the Constitution when they don't even know it? (Politicians take an oath to uphold the Constitution when they take office. Too many of them don't know it either.)

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.
- Thomas Jefferson.

The liberals in the Federal government have twisted, distorted and sometimes just ignored the Constitution.

The Legislative Branch was to make laws within the scope of its very specific enumerated powers. This has been so violated as to be unrecognizable! It is unconstitutional to single out any group in the citizenry for special treatment by the Federal government and yet we have the liberal programs such as welfare, unemployment insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and the worst of them all, Obamacare.

The ordaining of laws in favor of one part of the nation, to the prejudice and oppression of another, is certainly the most erroneous and mistaken policy. An equal dispensation of protection, rights, privileges, and advantages, is what every part (person) is entitled to, and ought to enjoy.
-Benjamin Franklin

The legislature gave away one of its enumerated powers, the power over money, in 1913, to private bankers calling themselves the Federal Reserve. They are not Federal, not a Reserve and not a government agency. (Try reading The Creature from Jekyll Island by G. Edward Griffin for the story about the Federal Reserve.) Even worse, the legislature created agencies to make the rules for the vague and nice sounding laws they pass. The rules made by the agencies are law. The bureaucracy created by these agencies is run by unelected individuals who do not answer to the public for the rules they make. The progressives created an administrative system that was free of political and constitutional controls, thus depriving the people of a representative form of government and fulfilling a major need of the progressives in the destruction of capitalist America.

The Executive Branch was to “execute”, or enforce, the laws made by the Legislative Branch. It had no power to make laws. Even though the Executive Branch has been usurping power for decades, the current administration takes the prize! The blatant disregard for the Constitution is frightening. This entire article wouldn't be long enough to list the abuses.

The Judicial Branch was to judge cases according to the law. This is supposed to mean to judge according to the spirit and intent of the law. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. There are copious writings of the Founders, the record of the Constitutional Convention and the various state ratification conferences which clearly show the spirit and intent of everything in the Constitution. Yet progressive, activist judges ignore these supporting documents and make decrees according to their personal opinions and even go so far as to quote foreign law to justify their actions. (The final part, Part 4 of HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? next week.)
