An accumulation of thoughts about a few different topics.
People who propose and support gun control perplex me. Guns are inanimate objects. Guns do not in and of themselves do any harm. Like most objects, guns can be used for good or evil purposes. It is the people handling the object that determines the purpose, not the object. Automobiles and knives are involved in more deaths every year than guns. Would they make those illegal too?
Guns are used every day by citizens of this country to prevent crime and to protect themselves and others. What good would making guns illegal accomplish? None. The law abiding people would give up their guns and the criminals would keep theirs. That doesn't sound like such a good idea to me.
Here is a little gun history for you:
During WW II the Japanese decided to not invade America because they knew most Americans owned guns.
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million “educated” people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
People rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million defenseless victims.
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property. Gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens. With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.
The Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) is calling for the impeachment of President Barack Obama for his involvement in the Operation Gunrunner scandal, as well as his recent edict instructing federal employees to establish a form of amnesty for illegal aliens in defiance of the Congress, existing federal laws, and the US Constitution.
Obama's ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] Director John Morton issued a memo on June
17 to all ICE Field Office Directors, Special Agents-in-Charge, and all Chief Counsel, authorizing them to decline to remove illegal aliens who meet the qualifications for amnesty under the DREAM Act Amnesty which Congress has rejected many times.
Congressional investigations have determined that Obama's ATF and Justice Department have been supplying assault weapons to drug cartels that import most of America's cocaine, methamphetamine, and illegal immigrants.
June 29 was a deadline for retailers to dispose of any unsold cribs that didn't meet the new federal safety standards. An estimated 100,000 cribs had to be disposed of even though they have never been declared unsafe or hazardous to children. Retailers stand to lose at least $32 million. Way to go Obama administration!
The CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) followed a congressional mandate to update the safety standards, but it gave manufacturers and retailers only six months to move their inventory. The Democrat-led commission voted against extending the deadline for retailers. Commissioner Anne Northup, who argued for an extension, condemned the left’s assault on private enterprise. “I am truly at a loss to understand the motivation behind these actions,” Northup said. “At a time when small businesses are struggling to survive, this commission has refused to throw even a short lifeline to retailers that will now suffer at least tens of millions of dollars of losses.”
The CPSC actions don't stop at retailers. Child care centers, family child care homes and hotels are required to replace all cribs that don't meet the new standard - even those that pose no safety threat to children. That deadline is Dec. 28, 2012.
Another amazing feat of an irresponsible Federal government is the fact that as of July
8, 800 days — and $7.3 trillion dollars — have come and gone since the Democrat-led Senate has adopted a budget. The Senate has a legal obligation to pass a budget every year but has not done so for more than two years. Even more unbelievable than not passing a budget is the fact that the Democrats have not even proposed a budget! Back in May, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) stated, “There’s no need to have a Democratic budget in my opinion. It would be foolish for us to do a budget at this stage.”
A budget is not only a definite written fiscal plan, it is also a philosophy of governing. Considering how badly the economy in America is doing under the Democrats' governance, it would indeed be foolish to put their ideas in writing!
