Cross lightings

The cross on the Grantham United Methodist Church was lit on March 14 in memory of Edgar Masone by Patricia Masone. It will be lit on March 23 in memory of Carl Miles by Patricia Masone and on March 29 in memory of Alfred Holmes by Joey Holmes.


Dorr selected for Dean’s List 

Gabrielle M. Dorr has been selected for inclusion on the Dean's List for academic achievement during the fall semester at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, earning a 3.75 average. Eligibility requires students to have an academic average of 3.6 or better (based upon a 4.0 scale) for the semester. Dorr, who graduated from Proctor Academy in Andover, is majoring in psychology.


Baseball, softball clinics in Sunapee 

Sunapee Recreation is offering two great clinics to get you ready for the spring season! Baseball Pitching Clinic with varsity coach Tom Frederick, March 20 at Sunapee High School. 9-10:30 a.m. for boys in grades 3 and 4; 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., grades 5 and 6. Cost is $15 for non-residents. Softball Clinic with Harry Blood, March 21 at Sunapee High School. Learn and refine the skills of windmill pitching from 10 a.m. to noon; skills clinic, 12:30-3 p.m. Cost is $25/session or $40/both. Sax is featured 

Jazz on a Sunday Afternoon is almost over. Don’t miss "spirited and spunky" saxophonist Cercie Miller from 4 to 7 p.m. March 28 at The Center at Eastman. Cost is $18 for adults and $16 for seniors (62+) and students (-17). A bistro menu and full beverage selection is offered during all performances by Bistro Nouveau. Eastman Lake Ice Out Contest 

Entry forms are available now throughout Grantham for the annual Eastman Lake Ice Out contest. Pick up a form and fill in the chart to predict the exact time that the cement block will fall through the ice for your chance to win a share of the $350 pot. Join in the fun and donate to a great cause: the Eastman Charitable Foundation, which has given grants to many Grantham entities, including GVS and the Park and Ride Tree fund. All entries must be postmarked no later than midnight March 31 (or prior to Ice Out, whichever comes first) to be eligible for one of three prizes. Winners will be announced at the Chowda Suppa on April 25.


Compost bin sale 

Do your part for Earth Day 2010… purchase a compost bin or rain barrel to benefit the Grantham Recreation Park. Did you know that one compost bin diverts about 500 pounds of organic waste from our landfill? Orders must be received by April 2.

Raffles continue 

Lebanon High School Project Graduation is selling raffle tickets for two separate drawings: a lovely, queen-sized quilt made by Grantham’s own Jill Williams $1 each or six for $5); and two tickets to a Red Sox/Yankee game on Oct. 2 ($5 each or sox for $20). Register early for triathlon 

The eighth annual Splash, Mash and Dash Sprint Triathlon being held June 19 is over half full. The triathlon, which benefits the Upper Valley Humane Society, has had a full field of adult participants the last three years. Golf memberships available 

Get a 25 percent discount off membership fees for your first season of golf at Eastman. The discounted rate also applies if you have not been a member since 2004. Join the course where the best golfers in the state will be playing the 2010 New Hampshire Golf Association State Amateur Championship in July. • The town has a food collection box in the town hall foyer. Food donations are brought alternately to The Listen Center and the Newport Food Pantry. 

• In addition to the food collection box, there is a box to collect new stuffed animals for Turnings Points Network.
