Bistro Brain Busters Trivia March 9

Kathy Kosins comes to JOSA

Jazz on a Sunday Afternoon continues its 21st year Sunday, March 10 with vocalist Kathy Kosins (www.kathykosins.com).

The program runs from 4 to 7 p.m.; doors open at 3. Tickets are $18/adult; $16/senior or student (62 and older or 17 and younger). Forum on new principal Monday, March 11

The Grantham School Board is holding its first parent and community forum to get input on the next principal at 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 11 in the GVS cafeteria prior to the regular Board meeting.

 

Community lunch March 12

The community-wide lunch will be held at noon Tuesday, March 12 in the downstairs of the Grantham United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome to attend.

 

Town Meeting March 12

Election of Town and School Officers will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12.

Town Meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 at the Town Hall. The Town Clerk’s Office will close at 4 p.m.; there will be no evening hours.

In order to vote you’ll need to bring your photo ID. For more information contact the Town Clerk’s office at 863-5608.

The Blue Mountain Snowdusters ORC will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14 at the Grantham Town Hall.

 

"Jiri to Everest Base Camp" is slide show lecture

Local photographer Jim Block will present his slideshow "Jiri to Everest Base Camp" taking the audience on a journey through Nepal beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17 at Our Lady Fatima Church, 724 Main St. in New London.  His slideshow is sponsored by the Sunapee Ragged Kearsarge Greenway and will be a part of their 2013 Annual meeting.

A potluck supper starts at 5 p.m. If you would like to participate in the potluck dinner, please contact Jean LaChance 927-4345.

Isle of Shoals is topic

Brenda Watts will make a presentation on the Isle of Shoals beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at The Center at Eastman. Brenda, a Grantham resident, has taught courses about the Shoals at both Adventures in Learning (AIL) at Colby-Sawyer College and Institute for Lifelong Education at Dartmouth (ILEAD), and has hosted five trips to Star Island. She is a member of the Isles of Shoals Historical and Research Associates.

The program is free and open to the public.

 

Computer class and special Storytime March 30

"Last Saturday" Storytime will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30.  Everybody welcome; small children must be accompanied by an adult.

Librarian Dawn Huston will offer a new series of computer classes beginning March 30. The first one, being held at 1 p.m. at the library, will be on how to download free eBooks from New Hampshire Downloadable Books Consortium to your Kindle.  For best results, have your Kindle and your Amazon username and password with you. If you don’t have a Kindle but might be considering buying one, Dawn will demonstrate on the library’s Kindle.

 

NYT or WSJ?

The Dunbar Free Library wants to know which people would prefer for the library iPad: the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal. (The iPad is only for use in the library.) The library can get one or the other as an added value from a subscription it purchased. Let Librarian Dawn Huston know: 863-2172.

Easter Sunday Services will be held Sunday, March 31 in Grantham beginning at sunrise at Gray Ledges and at 9 a.m. at the Grantham United Methodist Church. Everyone is invited.

 

Transfer station closed Easter Sunday

The Grantham Transfer Station will be closed Sunday, March 31 for Easter.

 

Kindergarten registration for 13/14 school year begins

Grantham Village School kindergarten registration for children who will be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 30, 2013 has begun. Parents and guardians should call 863-1681 before April 5 to register and schedule a screening time for a Friday in May.

Reminders

• Dunbar Free Library’s Laptime for ages up to 36 months is held at 10 a.m. Wednesdays. Storytime for ages 3-5 years is held at 10 a.m. Thursdays. Adults are required to attend with their children.

• The morning walking program continues at Grantham Village School gym from 7:30 to 8:10 a.m. each morning that school is in session (no walking Feb. 18-22) until April vacation. Participants must bring clean sneakers to wear while walking.

• Grantham United Methodist Church worship service at 9 a.m. each Sunday, with Pastor Patricia Williams. Everyone is welcome to attend.

• Drop off food at the Grantham Town Hall for local food banks that serve Grantham residents.

• CG Shepherd Realty collects coats year-round to be distributed to people in need. Drop off gently used coats at Shepherd’s Grantham office in Sawyer Brook Plaza, in the coat collections can, or in one of Shepherd’s Smart Cars when you see them parked around town.

• ACBL-sanctioned duplicate bridge every Thursday at 1 p.m. at The Center at Eastman. $3/person. Everyone welcome regardless of experience. Arrive early to help set up.

Winter Parking Ordinance: No vehicle parking on any street or way or in a public parking lot within the Town of Grantham between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. from Nov. 1 to April 1. Vehicles towed at owner’s expense and violators will be subject to a fine of $50.

Town Winter Sand: The Town of Grantham will provide sand for all residents during the winter months. Sand is available for private use only and to be collected by private individuals. There shall be NO use of the sand facility by Commercial Sanding/Plow Operators. Sand is to be taken from the designated area and residents ARE NOT ALLOWED to remove sand from the Highway Department’s sand shed. If the designated area is empty please notify the Selectmen’s Office. Violators will be subject to a $25 fine.

Street Obstruction Ordinance: No person shall deposit snow, ice or any other materials on any Class V town-maintained road or push snow or ice across the traveled surface of any Town of Grantham road. Violators will be subject to a $25 fine.
