New Time: Community dinner benefits Haiti mission project The Grantham United Methodist Church will host a community dinner beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 in the church hall. Helping the animals Bring a donation for the Sullivan County Humane Society to Bistro Nouveau any Saturday night in February and get any burger on the menu for $6. Grantham Mountaineers hold team kick-off The Grantham Mountaineers will kick-off its 2013 campaign Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Susan Mattson’s home, 26 Fairway Dr. Starting at 5:30 p.m., the event will be an opportunity for returning team members to reconnect and for potential new members to find out more about who we are and the exciting events we have planned for the 2013 Prouty year. "The Prouty" is a July event, not a race, for walkers, bikers and rowers of all levels, held to benefit the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center. A Meet the Candidates Night will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 in the lower level meeting room at Grantham Town Hall. The annual school meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5 in the school gym (bad weather date: Thursday, March 7). Election of Town and School Officers will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12. Town Meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 at the Town Hall. The Town Clerk’s Office will close at 4 p.m.; there will be no evening hours.
Read Across America March 1 Our Town and the Dunbar Free Library team up to host a Dr. Seuss Birthday Party beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, March 1 at the Grantham Town Hall. This Read Across America event begins with an animated reading. Children will make a hat like the Cat’s, receive a free book and bookmark, and of course there will be birthday cake! "Ella: The Queen of Swing" March 6 Don’t miss "The Queen of Swing," the story of Ella Fitzgerald, from homeless in Harlem to the Queen of Swing, told by Nanette Perrotte combining social history, musicology and storytelling, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6 at The Center at Eastman. The program is free and open to the public. It is presented by the Friends of the Dunbar Library and the Eastman Community Association.

Vehicles towed at owner’s expense and violators will be subject to a fine of $50. • Town Winter Sand: The Town of Grantham will provide sand for all residents during the winter months. Sand is available for private use only and to be collected by private individuals. There shall be NO use of the sand facility by Commercial Sanding/Plow Operators. Sand is to be taken from the designated area and residents ARE NOT ALLOWED to remove sand from the Highway Department’s sand shed. If the designated area is empty please notify the Selectmen’s Office. Violators will be subject to a $25 fine. • Street Obstruction Ordinance: No person shall deposit snow, ice or any other materials on any Class V town-maintained road or push snow or ice across the traveled surface of any Town of Grantham road. Violators will be subject to a $25 fine.
