Cross lightings

The cross on the Grantham United Methodist Church was lit Jan. 5 and 9 in memory of Hugh and Ella Reney. It was lit Jan. 20 in memory of Ed Masone by Pat Masone.

It will be lit Feb. 7 in memory of Elizabeth Swensen by Mr. and Mrs. Norman Fontaine, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Swensen and Naomi Sanborn.

 

Soup brings in the lettuce

The Soup's On event held at the Grantham Village School cafeteria last weekend to benefit the Grantham Community Crisis Fund was a huge success. More than 100 people came out to enjoy 21 different kinds of soup, warm bread, salad, cider and yummy desserts! It was a wonderful evening of friends and neighbors sharing a meal together and raising $910 for a great cause in the process. Thanks for coming out.

 

Benefits for David’s House

Eastman Community Association again plays host for two great events to benefit David’s House.

The annual Chili Cook-Off will be held noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at The Center at Eastman. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children. Come taste many wonderful, homemade varieties of chili and vote for your favorite.

The inaugural Eastman Loppet for David's House will be held Saturday, Feb. 11 from the Eastman Cross Country Center. Reduced pledge amounts are being offered for anyone who pre-registers before Feb.10. Click this link for complete details.

Trivia returns Saturday

Trivia Nights return for the winter at Bistro Nouveau beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28. Kathy Pomer is back for more fun. Teams of six or fewer are welcome to compete for great prizes and bragging rights. Other Trivia Nights will be held Feb. 11 and March 24.

Upcoming school meetings

The Grantham School Board will hold the following meetings:

* the annual School District Budget Hearing at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 in the Grantham Village School cafeteria.

* its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6 in the Music Room.

* the annual School District Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 1 in the Grantham Village School gymnasium.

 

File now for school offices

The filing period for Grantham School District positions began Jan. 25 and closes Feb. 3. The School District Clerk will be available 3-5 p.m. Feb. 3 at the SAU #75 office in the Grantham Town Building. The SAU office is open daily from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. for individuals interested in picking up candidacy applications.

The following positions will be open:

* Moderator - one-year position

* Clerk - one-year position

* Treasurer - one-year position

* School Board - two three-year positions

The election for School District Officers will be held 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 at the Grantham Town Hall.

 

 

File now for town offices

The filing period for Town Offices began Jan. 25 and closes on Feb. 3. The Town Clerk’s Office will remain open until 5 p.m. for filing purposes only on Feb. 3. The following positions are open:

* Selectman – 3-year term

* Planning Board – two 3-year positions

* Trustee of the Trust Funds – 3-year term

* Trustee of the Trust Funds – 2-year term

* Cemetery Trustee – 3-year term

* Trustee of Dunbar Free Library – two 3-year positions

* Trustee of Dunbar Free Library – two 1-year positions

* Town Moderator – 2-year term

* Supervisor of the Checklist – 6-year term

Applications and position descriptions are available at the Town Clerk’s office. The annual Town Meeting and election of officers will be on March 13. Polls will be open 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Town meeting will begin at 5 p.m.

 

Swine & Wine dinner

Bistro Nouveau also presents Swine & Wine beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2. Enjoy a four-course, wine dinner featuring pork in every course for $55/person including tax and gratuity. First course: shredded pork shoulder, beet chip, scallop, horseradish foam, and cauliflower cream. Second course: braised pork belly (bacon) and sweet potato hash. Third course: a classic pork loin roulade. Dessert: a mini apple tart with maple bacon ice cream.

Community dinner and lunch

The monthly community potluck will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 in the lower level of the Grantham United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome; just bring a dish to share.

The monthly community luncheon will be held at noon Tuesday, Feb. 14. Donations are encouraged and everyone is welcome.

 

Snowdusters meet Feb. 7

The Blue Mountain Snowdusters will hold their regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 in the Gerry Whitney Room (upstairs) at Grantham Town Hall. Please visit www.snowdusters.org or call Jodie 863-1551 with any questions.

Reminders

• Grantham United Methodist Church worship service at 9 a.m. each Sunday, with Pastor Patricia Williams. Everyone is welcome to attend.

• The Grantham Food Pantry at 65 Roses in Rum Brook Plaza is open for food pick up from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, visit www.granthamfoodpantry.org or call Caitlin at 603-361-2604. Donations of non-perishable food, toiletry and baby items can be dropped off at the Dunbar Free Library, Grantham Town Hall and Eastman’s South Cove Activity Center. Cash donations go to the Grantham Community Crisis Fund.

• Storytimes at Dunbar Free Library are held each week at 10 a.m. Wednesdays for children 3 and younger, and 10 a.m. Thursdays for children 4 and older. An adult chaperone is required.

• Men and women interested in playing basketball can come to Grantham Village School every Sunday (except holidays) for free fun and exercise. Women’s pick-up ball is from 5 to 7 p.m.; men’s, 7 to 9 p.m. The men have a strong group kicking off the season; women interested should contact Susan Martin at 863-9094 to let her know you are attending.

• Zumba Fitness with instructor Angie Shonts is 7:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays in the Grantham Village School gym.
