Well, I went to the
Glenn Beck rally in Washington, D.C. My wife is a huge fan and
forced me to go. Glenn Beck is OK, but there is a fair amount of
showmanship used in promoting his very valid message. I loved Sarah
Palin, Alveda King, and the brave but mangled soldiers who appeared
on stage.
So, what did I get out
of the event? Mostly, how many middle class people are PISSED. Those
there were physicians, optometrists, nurses, professors, college
educated, intelligent and full of common sense. They were polite,
clean, articulate, respectful and PISSED. They came from California,
Florida, Texas, New Hampshire, Arkansas and, I suspect from every
state in the continental U.S. If I were a liberal and thought I was
smarter and knew better than that crowd what was good for America, I
should be scared. These people are not the people who will tear them
limb from limb or tar and feather them. They will do something far,
far worse. The people at the Glenn Beck rally will work night and
day to take away the elitist's power. They will lose their status as
an aristocracy and the influential. They will be without power and
fame. For that type of person, it is a fate worse than any other.
Doubt not that most elites will face this fate, regardless of
political party or position. As the Japanese admiral said after
Pearl Harbor. "We have awoken a sleeping giant."
How many people were
there? The crowd filled the mall proper from the Lincoln Memorial to
the World War Two Memorial. I was in that area and we were shoulder
to shoulder. The crowd extended well into the fields beyond the
mall. Areas where they could not see and barely hear what was going
on. The crowd also extended more loosely to the Washington Monument,
many straggling-in late because the crowd overwhelmed the local
transportation system. For perspective, the mall is 1.2 miles long.
If 500,000 people will take days out of their lives, spend hundreds
of dollars in travel expenses, walk miles, stand in the hot sun to
listen to 3 hours of hope, what does that say about the mindset of
the American People. God Bless America.
