As the primary
elections loom near, we see candidates from both parties getting
desperate to win, so they start playing dirty. As a candidate for
re-election, I know how much work it is and I wonder that someone
wants the job so badly that they would throw ethics out the window
to win. Many candidates compare themselves to their opponents and
may use a little exaggeration. Attack ads actively smear other
candidates by misconstruing the truth and repeatedly using hyperbole
to belittle them.
The Republican Party
has one such individual this year, running for a national office and
resorting to attack ads. I had already told this individual that,
although I was supporting another candidate in the primary, I would
support this individual if they won the primary. I think I will have
to break my word. I cannot get behind someone who is acting petty
and selfish.
As you watch the races
for the fall elections develop, watch for those using attack ads.
This type of response to fair competition for office tells us a lot
about the character of the candidate running the ads… none of it
good.
