COUNTY TAXES GO UP...
... and it's partly my
fault. I voted for the county budget. The reason the budget almost
had to go up is the cost-shifting from the state budget (which I
voted against) to the county. We did essentially level fund grants.
Next year, I would like to see some cuts here. We denied raises for
many positions. Some spending will save money in the long run.
The real problem with
the county budget is next year's budget. The state budget is going
to be a disaster, which will mean even more cost-shifting from the
state to the county. The county does not have a lot of fat in its
budget to cut. Cost-shifting to Sullivan County pretty much means
increased property taxes to our residents. The key to a decent
budget next year will be lower spending at the state level where we
do have a lot of fat. I need all my constituents to support me next
year on our state-wide fiscal diet. Jenny Craig for governor.
