Senator Odell tells us in his column today that the
backroom deal, complete with coin toss, was presented to the Senate at the
beginning of their session. I wish I could say the same for the House of
Representatives. The entire deal was kept from most of us until after the
key vote. I have attached a copy of what I was presented with later in the
day, which is purported to be the actual agreement, the existence of
which was verbally confirmed by the Speaker of the House. The bills these deals include are the very
"garbage can" bills I discussed in earlier sessions. I hope you all note that this agreement supposedly
bound the NH Senate and NH House of Representatives without the permission
or even knowledge of your legislators. Our constituents were no longer
represented in Concord. This agreement rendered needless the
representative form of government in New Hampshire. This was the classic,
often-referred-to, underhanded, backroom deal. About as dirty as it gets.
I was incensed. I hope you all are too. And remember this was brought to
you by the leaders of the Democrat party. Those signatures are those of
the Democrat Speaker of the House and the Democrat President of the
Senate. Republican leadership already has plans to implement rules to
prevent such a thing happening ever again, regardless of the party in
power. It is the right thing to do. The right thing for you to do this fall election is to
remember, and vote for those who respect and listen to you the voter.
