RESPONSIBILITY
A recent newspaper story
revealed that a New Hampshire female selectman was raped in her home.
Sadly, she possessed a firearm, which society had encouraged her to keep
unloaded and locked away. A large segment of society
encourages us all to abdicate our responsibility and concede it to our
government which in the case of this selectman was our police. They
weren't there. I applaud the selectman for her safe storage of her
firearm, but her rape demonstrates the need to not only be responsible
with our firearms for the safety of others, but to take responsibility for
our own safety. The attractive ads on TV showing villains kicking in a
door, setting off an alarm and running for the hills is reassuring, but
misleading. |
The violent in our society know well that the phone call from an alarm company assuring that "police are on the way", won't be answered if they continue their assault. They also know that police will not arrive for at least 10 minutes, more than enough time for them to achieve their goals. If there is an alarm. Time for disclosure. I am a former officer in the U.S. Army and currently an NRA certified firearms instructor. I believe that an individual not only has the right to defend themselves, but the obligation. Had this selectmen had proper training prior to her attack, she would have known how to keep a firearm loaded and accessible… safely. I hope she never would have had to use it, as NRA tells me 90% of attacks where the victim produces a firearm, the attacker immediately flees. Please take responsibility for yourself.
