Gamboling (not a typo)

I read in our capitol's primary newspaper that Beverly Rodeschin, my long time representative, has wandered from the non-gambling camp into the gambling camp. Bless her heart, because she got there by following the wishes of her constituents. I know she has been lobbied by constituents on both sides of the issue, as have I. We both have seen, however, that the vast majority of our constituents want gambling (above and beyond what we already have, that is); many for the revenue, most because they don't want to travel to other states to gamble, taking the revenues to that state. They love New Hampshire and want to stay here, spend their money here and keep the tax revenues here.

Some say we shouldn't be guided by the wishes of our constituents (same newspaper as above; what a surprise so many are going out of business). I suspect that these people are the highly intelligent, well educated individuals that realize that the rest of us are too stupid to understand the issues. Well, I understand the issues and I listen to my constituents. There are times when information is available to legislators that cannot be dispersed to our constituents in a timely manner, and other information that is so dry and technical that we realize our public just won't spend the time to fight through it. That is why they elect people they trust. TO LISTEN TO THEM, ADD A LITTLE SPECIAL INSIGHT, AND MAKE A FAIR DECISION.

By way of disclosure, I should mention that I respect Beverly immensely and we agree on most issues. I have researched the potential problems, also, and agree that they are not hurdles that cannot be overcome. So as we gambol through tough financial times, reduced revenues, and state cut-backs, lets have some fun and create some revenue…. lets do a little gambling.

And speaking of gambling and gamboling, we have some US Congressmen doing both. They are gamboling through a flawed process, gambling their political futures that the public are blind, deaf and dumb (and I mean the latter both ways). The way the highly unpopular health bill may be passed, or should I say illegally imposed, may be political suicide for those supporting such antics. As a former Army officer, I have a few words for our president and his supporters of the health care bill: DUCK AND COVER!!
