Recession-Free Activities

Money is tight, but that does not mean you need to stop exploring, learning, or having fun. There are plenty of free events for every type of lifestyle.

Free On-line Course from Major Universities, including MIT.

That’s right all courses are free, and you can take them at your own pace. The only down fall is you don’t receive the college credit, but if you want to brush up on skills, learn a subject, and improve your gray matter, it’s a wonderful opportunity. Courses are available from the following schools:

.      Massachusetts Institute of Technology

.      Open University

.      Carnegie Mellon University

.      Tufts University

.      Stanford University

.      University of California, Berkeley

.      Utah State University

.      Kutztown University of Pennsylvania

.      University of Southern Queensland

.      University of California, Irvine

You can access all the above universities here.

Free Home Repairs

Kearsarge Workcamp This summer from July 13 to July 17, the Kearsarge Workcamp will be coming to the area. This is a project operated by the Trinity Bible Church in South Sutton, NH. It is a group of young people and their adult leaders from across the country that spend the summer doing home repairs for people who are low-income and/or disabled and cannot do the repairs themselves.

For Sunapee residents, there is also a small fund set aside for repairs that directly relate to home heating issues if the Workcamp cannot provide the needed materials. For availability of funds, contact the Welfare Administrator, Julie I. Carson. She is available at the Sunapee Town Office on Wednesdays from 9 am to noon at (603) 763-2212, or at other times by calling (603) 863-9529.

Applications for the Kearsarge Workcamp are available at the Sunapee Town Office. Please remember to get your requests in early. Or you can contact the Trinity Bible Church directly at (603) 927-4213
