December 14, 2009

It’s December 13 and I am walking around in flip-flops instead of boots. I’d be lying to say I didn’t like it, especially since flip-flops are my shoe of choice. However it doesn’t seem like Christmas without the snow. More than once I’ve thought about the original lyrics to the beginning of the song White Christmas penned by Irving Berlin. “The sun is shining, the grass is green, The orange and palm trees sway. There's never been such a day in Beverly Hills, L.A. But it's December the twenty-fourth, And I am longing to be up North

I love seeing my daughter and my sister, but it doesn’t feel like the Christmas season. I helped my daughter Kristina put her tree up, we went Christmas shopping at midnight, and saw the hysterical play “A Tuna Christmas” but it seems more like October than Christmas. I wish I could have all my family with me in New Hampshire, but this is the next best thing.

We have left San Diego and are staying at the Beverly Garland Hotel in Universal City. It is beautiful. Beverly Garland played the mom in My Three Sons in the 1960s as well as in the following movies: Christmas Vacation 2, Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure (20-Dec-2003), It’s My Turn (24-Oct-1980), Roller Boogie (21-Dec-1979), Airport 1975 (18-Oct-1974), Where the Red Fern Grows (27-Jun-1974), The Voyage of the Yes (16-Jan-1973), Pretty Poison (23-Oct-1968), Twice-Told Tales (Sep-1963), The Alligator People (Jul-1959), The Joker Is Wild (26-Sep-1957), Gunslinger (18-Mar-1957), Not of This Earth (10-Feb-1957), Curucu Beast of the Amazon (Dec-1956), Swamp Women (16-Nov-1956), It Conquered the World (15-Jul-1956), The Neanderthal Man (19-Jun-1953), Problem Girls (1-Apr-1953) and D.O.A. (30-Apr-1950). Garland died Dec. 5, 2008.

Executive Council Report by Ray Burton

The NH Operation Life Saver Committee has been in existence since 1983. Our focus is threefold- education, engineering, and enforcement where railroads come into contact with highways.
This 27-member committee is a part of the New England Health and Safety Council with offices in Concord, NH. Committee members include railroad owners/operators, state safety officials, driver education teachers, and interested citizens. Over the years we have conducted mock rail/vehicle crashes, have trained presenters for classroom presentations, participated in railroad promotion marketing days, trade shows and local chamber of commerce events. We meet about four times per year.
