Irreplaceable
Bert Smith
The
Board of Selectman swore in Steve Michel on Monday, September 27, 2009
as a member on the board for Trustees of the Trust Funds and Cemeteries.
He is fulfilling the remainder of Bert Smith’s term that expires in
2012. Welcome aboard Steve.
The
Executive Board of Croydon Historical is meeting on Friday, October 2,
at 7:00 p.m. to determine a replacement for its treasurer Bert Smith.
Filling
the positions left opened by Bert Smith’s passing is easy, compared to
filling the void he left in our community. So many people have expressed
the loss they feel on a personal level. He is missed.
Veteran’s
Dinner
The
Croydon Historical Society, Board of Selectmen, Congregational Church,
Croydon Volunteer Fire Department, and the Women’s Auxiliary are
planning a potluck supper on November 14 at 4 pm to recognize and thank
all of Croydon’s Veterans for their military service. Known veterans
will receive invitations, and the Croydon Historical Society are mailing
requests for information to identify other residents who served in the
military.

K9
Search and Rescue Training
When
Chief of Police Richard Lee attended a training class of K9 Search and
Rescue on Saturday, September 27, 2009, little did he know he would meet
up with the group later in the day.
Lee went to Camp Coniston to attend
the training on his own accord. He discovered the dogs were amazing. Lee
was impressed that the canines could find someone who was 20 feet
underwater. “You can see this
stuff on TV and in the movies, but when you see the dogs perform in
person, it is unbelievable.”
What
was unbelievable was that he had a chance to see the dogs in action on
Saturday evening, since K9 Search and Rescue brought three of their
dogs, a Golden Retriever, German shepherd, and a Blood Hound to search
for the woman who was missing near Fletcher Road.
K9
Search and Rescue is a volunteer organization that trains throughout the
year. The group, made up of volunteers from NH and VT, helps in search
and rescues for NH Fish and Game and Police Departments throughout the
state.
