The Croydon Congregational Church is holding a Chinese Auction on Saturday, July 18 from 9-3 at the Croydon Volunteer Fire Department on Route 10.

When is the weather going to warm up? Iíve talked with several residents at Rocky Bound Pond and they havenít been swimming as usual because of the cold weather. I usually go swimming every day, but have not been in once this year, unless you count me falling in the pond in May.

It has been a busy month for me, and I apologize to my readers for being behind in my column. My daughter Kristina had emergency surgery and then came home for some rest and relaxation. It was good to see her; I hate living so far away from her.

Following Kristinaís surgery, my mother in law had knee and hip replacement surgery and is now recuperating. Fortunately, the surgery was on the same side and should make her recuperation a bit easier.

My grandson has joined the Tiger Sharks, Claremontís swim team, which is an excellent organization. They have practice3-5 times a week and a once a week meet. Iíve lived here since 1977 and only learned of the team this past spring. They also have a winter swim team that starts in November and goes through March. If anyone is interested call, 542-7019 for information and registration.

The Croydon Historical cancelled its July meeting, so members could attend the funeral of Dennis Howard of Grantham. On August 8, the Historical Society gives a tribute to the Gross Family, following their business meeting 10:30-Noon. The meeting and tribute are free, and open to the public. Refreshments served.

The Samuel Morse House and Museum on Rt. 10 across from the Coniston Store, is open for tours on Sundays through July and August. Admission is free and hours are from 1-3 p.m.

Another successful yard sale for the Croydon Historical Society, thanks to all the folks who donated and purchased items. Bill Smith was winner of the historical societyís 50/50 and won $98.00.

We hid a letterbox in Croydon Flat. If you are interested in finding it click here.

I know a lot of local folks do Valley Quest and letterboxing is similar except you can find letterboxes throughout the US. There are many lovely spots to discover through this activity. You can find more information at

Thanks to Andy and Curt Jr. of Broken Road for fixing my passenger door. For some reason my door would not open. It wasnít locked, and pushing and pulling on it didnít work. I was on my way to the dealership when I thought, "Why not try Broken Road, they build Jeeps from scraps?"
Sure thing they had my door fixed within an hour. Turns out a screw fell out of the handle and now itís good as new. The best part was I didnít have to leave Croydon to get it fix.

The Eagle Times closed and many are worried about other local papers. Here is a good site to visit concerning this issue.

Please feel free to contact me with any information, news, announcements or just to say hello at Have a great week.
