NH Black Bears
Despite the sub-zero temperatures, about 75 people braved the weather to attend a standing room only slide show and talk by Ben Kilham on Black Bear Behavior at the Fiske Free Library in Claremont, on Thursday Jan. 19. I was fortunate enough to attend a talk by the "Man Among the Bears" in 2005 and was anxious to hear him once again. Kilham has a natural humor he combines with his extensive, personal knowledge of the black bears that allows him to entertain and educate. Kilham lives in Lyme NH and because of dyslexia, he was unable to attend graduate school to pursue his dream of studying animal behavior and working with it professionally. Kilham achieved his dream, but not through the standard methods. Kilham has written "Among The Bears" published by Henry Holt 2002. In addition he has two DVDs about his bear experiences "Papa Bear" from the Discovery channel, and "Bear Man" from the National Geographic channel. To learn more about Ben Kilham and/or black bear behavior visit his web site at www.benkilham.com.
On The Cheap Free Ice Fishing Class - Lebanon NH Recreation Department. Beginning January 28 through February 7 2009 New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is presenting a three session program to learn about ice fishing. Students need to attend all three sessions. |
