Accident

On Thursday, Dec. 29, 264 Residences in Croydon lost electric power due to an accident that knocked down an electric pole near Shepard Construction on Rt. 10 in Grantham. Residents were without power for approximately six hours, and Rt. 10 in Grantham was closed to thru traffic.

According to Croydon Police Chief Richard Lee, the truck involved was a tractor-trailer, but he was unaware if there were injuries since Grantham did not assistant with the accident.

 

Grange

The Croydon Grange meets on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 7 pm in the Town Hall. The meeting is for the instillation of Officers. New members and the public are always welcomed.

 

School Board Meeting

The Croydon School Board meets on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 6:30 pm in the Town Hall.

January 12 - Republican, Steve Cunningham wins special Election for State Representative. He faced off Democratic candidate Arthur Gillette of Goshen NH.

Feb - Joseph Daltorio of Croydon, NH was one of 500 students who made the President's List for achieving a grade point average of 3.7 or better during the fall semester of the 2009-2010 academic year at Plymouth State University, Plymouth NH.

February 26 - Friday, Croydon Village looses power and CVS cannot open for the day. Pastor Donna Leslie opens up Croydon Flat church for those who need shelter. By Sunday, all power is restored.

March 13 - Article 5 on School Meeting that would allow a committee to look into the possibility of ending or modifying the Area Agreement with Newport.

April 10 - Steve Tracy holds organization meeting at the Croydon Volunteer Fire Department to form Croydon Grange.

May 3 - Jim Peschke finishes writing his book, "The Michael Letters", and is seeking to get it published.

May 22 - Stephen Tracy, Pat Hayward, Nick Cohen, Cody Kangas, and Bap Kresse went to the Croydon Village School to hand out dictionaries.

June 12 - Cindy Enos of Brighton Road won $35 from the Croydon Historical Society’s 50/50 raffle during the society’s annual yard sale. The CHS realized $500 from the yard sale.

July 12 - Sarah Menard of Grantham is injured in a single car accident on Rt. 10 near Bouldervale Road in Croydon.

July 25 - Fairpoint finished installing the equipment needed for high-speed internet available to residents who live within a 1.5-mile radius of the Croydon fire station.

Aug. 14 - Croydon Historical Society holds Antique Tractor Parade. Tractors receiving awards:

  • Bob Kangus won the award for having the Largest Tractor Contingency in his family, with four tractors and four family members.
  • Wendell Kendel received the honor of having the Funniest Tractor.
  • Don Davis of Unity was bestowed with "Coming the Furthest".
  • Harold Booth’s 1946 Brockway tractor, won him the prize for "The Oldest Tractor".
  • Mike Walsh took home the ribbon for "Best Modern Tractor".
  • Alexis Quimby won "Best Decorated Tractor".
Aug. 24 - The Croydon Historical Society receives a sampler made by Samantha Powers of Croydon when she was 10 years old. The sampler is a "Deed Gift" from Amy Hill.

Aug. 28 - Three Croydon residents attend the Restoring Honor Rally in Washington DC. Jim and Cathy Peschke, along with their two children Anastasia and Alexander, traveled by car, and Bap Kresse took a bus from Long Island.

Sept. 15 - Roxanne Turner raised $800 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Sept. 17 - The Croydon Volunteer Fire Department put out a fire that started in the chimney of Bap Kresse's home on Croydon Brook Road. Springfield, Goshen, Newport, and Grantham fire departments also responded.

Oct. 16 - Croydon Historical Society had its Annual Antique Appraisal Day in Croydon Town Hall.

Nov. 13 - Annual Veteran’s Appreciation Dinner at the Croydon Volunteer Fire Department. The event was a collaboration of the Croydon Historical Society, Croydon Congregational Church, Croydon Volunteer Fire Department, and the Ladies Auxiliary.

Dec. 11 - Santa Visits the Croydon Volunteer Fire Department.

Dec. 21 - Croydon Village School and Kindergarten students perform "The Night Before Christmas".

Dec. 29 - 264 Residences loose power for six hour due to a truck accident in Grantham.
